: I am considering a Vision cage for my Indigo, as he has outgrown his current 48" x 18" cage. I've viewed the Vision cages on the net and am wondering about light and heat sources. As they are molded, how does that system work? I see there are formed areas that appear to be for lighting etc., but its not clear to me.
: If someone uses these cages could you tell me a bit about setting them up with light and heat.

: I'm also considering Cages by Design and Custom Cage options. If anyone has thoughts on these as well, I'd be interested in experiences.

: Much thanks,

: Melanie

Melanie,
I have used a wide variety of cages since I first started keeping Indigos years ago. After experimenting with everything from glass aquaria to melamine cages to Bush cages to Neodesha cages, I finally settled on Vision cages, which in my humble opinion are head and tails above the rest . I truly can't speak for the cages that have been mentioned in the posts above(custim cages) I have never usaed these. But I really didn't like melamine cages. Vision cages clean up well, can be heaqted by an overhead bulb(45 watt) are easy to cleaqn and disinfect. The only drawbacks are that when stacked upon each other, the ones on the bottem of the stack will present difficulty in popping out , or removeing the glass doors. I have also heard of large groups of thesae cages buckling or bowing when stacked. But I reiterate, I wouldn't use anything else with Drymarchon. I'm sure that othewrs will have legitemate endorsements for other types of cageing, but haveing kept and bred these snakes for quite a while, learned by trial and error, also when I first started with Drymarchon Vision cages were not available. At any rate I hope that I have caused more confusion on the subject of cageing. for more info on Indigos go to Renegade Reptiles on Kingsnake and see the section I've submitted on E. Indigos. hope this helped.

Fred
