: Welcome to the Soviet Socialist State of New Jersey. That is such crap that some bureaucrat has taken it upon himself to say that you cant keep a legally captive bred, completely harmless, easy to care for and rather COMMON snake. Even the Endangered Species Act leaves a little wiggling room so that those interested can actually keep them. It's really sad that's the case in NJ.
: Out here in the West Coast, F&G officials tend to concern themselves with mostly native animals, and that's how it should be.
: You may want to try other subspecies like the D.c. unicolor or maybe a Texas indigo. They aren't all black, but interesting none the less.
: Good luck dude,

I am not too familiar with the state laws in NJ, but I do know how a lot of the bureaucrats think. Some of the officers take it upon themselves to interpret the rules. Ask them to tell you exactly which law(s) prohibit you owning an Indigo in NJ. You may be suprised at what you find. I know that in Florida, I sold indigos to people for years. All got the required state and federal permits first. Then all of a sudden they decided they didn't like the idea of anyone owning a pair. They didn't want people breeding them. Now they will only issue permits for a single sex and then only if you are going to use the snake for educational purposes. I'm not sure, but I don't think the laws changed, only the interpretation of the "clerk" in charge. Thoughts???
