Fever (in the case of infection)is a reponse of the immune system causing the production and release into the bloodstream of endogenic pyrogens. It is thought that fever is beneficial to the function of the immune system in fighting the infection, because along with the increase in body temperature there is also in increase in leukocyte production as well as a decrease in the rate of division (or reproduction)of the bacterial or viral pathogen. Reptiles produce the same pyrogens, but will also seek warmer areas when they are fighting infection. Some reptiles (some Pythons) also have the ability to raise their own body temperatures by "shivering". This is normally seen in females that are incubating eggs. I'm not sure if it's ever been observed in sick animals that are not incubating.

: Alright, I'll give it a shot! I've heard different theories for why fevers happen in mammals, like viruses simply screwing with the internal thermostat of the organism, but I doubt my warmth-loving reptile will mind at all. =) I'll keep everyone posted, and thanks to everybody again!

::well the fever iunducing thing is simple as snake have to use heat to get warm and cool off un like mammals, they can not get a fever like we can. ever had a bad cold and a fever to go along with it? well the fever burns out the virus that is causing the cold, and will do the same for the snake. this is just a suggestion but i have done it num, erous times with boas, and pyhtons with success. i think if i were you i would find a better vet, cause if he cant find something wrong and there is definately something wrong, he either needs to consult someone or find out for himself.
