Ok; real info. As with most intoxicants (from alcohol to LSD), what's happening is you are poisoning yourself just slightly; enough to have a reaction but not an immediate death. I think the frog most often associated with this strange practice is Bufo marinus -- highly toxic; can kill a small dog. People may have tried other frogs too, but weren't able to report the results.
