The Barrens are a wonderful place to be, especially if you've read Kauffelds books as many times as I. Yet it does have it's drawbacks...
First and foremost... if you get caught even photographing reptiles in the area, you're up "Sheets Creek" without a paddle. They are extremely strict with the laws there... too strict in my opinion, although it's because of those overzealous collectors who continue to ruin it for everybody.
Secondly... remember Kauffelds quote : "I know of no place that holds so many reptiles, yet yields so few". It's profound and as true as anything you'll ever hear. The person who posted all those pics is either very lucky, very experienced in the area or has connections to FandW. I've spent a good part of my life in the 70's and 80's searching the area and hadn't even found the shed skin of a timber. (though I have found several Pines and Coastal Plains... and lots of Kings).
Yet, even thru all the countless hours of searching and finding nothing, it's still my favorite place in the world to be looking!
