They are also known as fungus gnats or rather closely related to fungus gnats. The good news is that they are harmless. The bad news is that they are everywhere except the polar areas of the world and you will never get totally rid of them. They love to feed on dead crickets but they also love snake waste. They can survive for months and reproduce with nothing more than moisture to live on and sadly they will even get into the AC vents and live there along with in the sink pipes. The best way to control them is dry them up but this isn't always possible. You can also get rid of a ton of them by taking a butter container filled with vinegar and make a pin hole or 2 in the lid but no more. They will go in the holes to get to the vinegar and get stuck inside you can then take the container outside and empty it. If you don't want to use vinegar then dead crickets in the tub will also work very well. Hope that helps you some.
