Elgaria kingii since 1838 when originally named by Gray, with the Arizona form being E.k.nobilis since 1852 when named by Baird and Girard. It has become Gerrhonotus kingii, nobilis, and multifasciatus along the way, but has bounced back to E. kingii. Like with many other alligator lizards, males have larger heads than females and hemipenal bulges. Of course, if you don't have a base of comparison, it may be hard for you to sex your lizards by sight. Breeding isn't too difficult. Cool your lizards down for a few months and introduce a male and female together. Keeping Madrean gators seperate isn't always necessary to facilitate breeding. Lizards housed together will often breed.
