Richard, Yes, we do have experience with them. You must realize that AZ is extremely diverse, going from 600 feet at the Colorado River near Yuma to 12,000 feet at the San Francisco Peaks. Madrean Alligators live in the more mesic high country where it is not nearly as hot as it gets in the desert flats where they could not survive.
Trust me, besides the Madreans we have now, we also have Northern and Southern Alligators, all of which are thriving and none of which are provided extra heating. We have also had various alligators for over 20 years, off and on, and have had excellent success with them. I will see if I can find any articles but I am sure there are many you can find online.
