:The snake was swimming along and found some structure to crawl up on and bask - that's it. It thought it had found some sort of log to bask on, nothing more exciting than that I'm afraid.
:The snake doesn't have enough gray matter to know that
:a. it was a boat
:b. that it had humas in it.
:The snake would have been some kind of Northern or Banded Watersnake, depending on where you lived. It was completely harmless.
