And the blue color makes it sound like a juvenile. Juvies of several skink species have bright blue tails, but I don't think the blue extends to their "armpits". Since it was several years ago that you saw this skink, perhaps you aren't recalling it perfectly.

The candidates for your skink sighting include the 5-lined skink (Eumeces fasciatus), the Broadhead skink (Eumeces laticeps), and the Southeastern 5-lined skink (Eumeces inexpectatus).
