I've heard that the Brits had problems in Africa during WWII, one name I specifically remember is the Death Adder. If you watch Steve Irwin's shows, he had that one where he went onto an army base and educated some rangers. They were out collecting venomous species to help keep soldiers out of harms way.
I too would be interested in statistics from Vietnam, but then again...Snakes were the least of their problems. So there probably aren't too many reported incidents..????
