In Reply to: Could you have a more pathetic show... posted by Zac on February 17, 2002 at 10:32:58:

At our shows, VENDORS set the prices, and the prices are usually set by the market at the time.....take a look at the ball python classifieds, is it the TSHS fault that some are going for over $125, or the derranged customers that would actually PAY $125 for a ball python with a tiny little ring around it's tail. Western Diamond Back Rattlesnakes are a dime a dozen in the industry. The market has set the price at about $35, where as the demand for Boas has set a higher standard. It is no fault of the vendors or the TSHS that the market is the way it is. Maybe if you were into dealing and trading you would understand this, but you have no right to criticize the show based on the industry it represents. Upon George's and my inspection of the animals, we didn't see any that were as you described. Did you happen to point it out to anybody, or were you planning on wihtholding this information and making it public to spite the society?

As for the call to arms...........I made the poster, I did the research about the API and the HSUS. I have single handedly been the ONLY member of the TSHS to write e-mails to members of the API, representatives in the PA legislature, and others around the country concerning the proposed legislation in SC and WA. I have brought this subject up before and have kept everyone in the society updated on the bills and reactions from the herp world. All I can say, is that living in WV, you may not have the defense I can provide in PA......good luck

It is posts like yours and the chance that you might even make this more public than you already have that hurts the herp community as a whole. Our society is trying to do a service to the herp keeping public, a service that requires active, involved members and yes, money.
