: Hi - I have a 9 month old ATB - I got him in June. He was with several others that all tried to strike when the tank was opened. However, once we took him out and held him he was fine. I have held him semi-regularly since and he has never once tried to strike at me. He is very curious and interested in me when I'm near his tank but he never acts aggressive. He hissed at me once while I held him but I was clearly annoying him.

As for substrate - I prefer a naturalistic tank. Mine has live plants and a wood chip substrate with lots of climbing branches. The risk of impaction does not exist since he feeds from tongs while perched at the top of the cage. The plants help keep the humidity up (should be 65-85%) and makes a nice display tank.

When I got Liam I was prepared for a really mean snake but he has been absolutely wonderful!

: i am picking up a garden phase tree boa, and i was wondering if any handles theirs. i have had a few good bites by tree boas, but i have never owned one. i am well aware of their bite, but i really would like to handle mine when it gets acclamated. i have gotten very angry african rock pythons, and retics to tame down over time, but i am wondering if aboreals stress easier. i have been reading up on their anatomy and physiology (aboreals) for a few months now, and i am confident in my descision to get one. i don't mind not handling one, but, i think it would be fun to have one that is handlable.

: i am also confused about substrate. i am planning un using newspaper (figureing that since they atre aboreal they do on need much sub. s.) but i know news paper will not hold appropiate humidity. i'm thinking about cypress mulch, but i am worried about possiable intestineal impactions.
