Many items are OK as part of a varied diet.
You can get into trouble by over-reliance one one or two items. I have a tiny leopard tortoise and feed it clover, dandelion leaves, grass, mazuri chow with timothy hay, hibiscus flowers and leaves, and a few greens.
If I feed it more than a little bit of greens (collards, turnip greens, romaine, red lettuce, etc), its stools get runny. Not enough fiber.
According to the USDA database, romaine has more phosphorous than calcium. So it's not a food you should use as a major part of the diet.
