Redfoot with cracked beak

Okay Redfoot experts. I have a little problem. I have a 3.5 year old redfoot who has a small crack on the bottom part of his beak. It is right in the middle, and must have just occured in the last 24 hours or so. I noticed it while giving him his daily bath. I don't think he is in any discomfort because he still comes running when it is chow time, but I noticed he seems to be struggling with biting little pieces of salad. He also makes a quite loud clicking from his upper and lower beak hitting together when he is feeding. I've started tearing his salad into tiny bite size pieces, so he doesn't have to struggle with trying bite pieces off himself. That seems to make it much easier for him. He doesn't seem to have any problem with the fruit I give him, but that is all very soft. My question is will this heal on its own, or should I take him to the vet. Like I said, he still eats like a horse, and is his usual self, but this does have me concerned. Thanks in advance for any advice.
