NEW RED TEGU

Hi, I just got a new baby argentine red tegu and I have a few questions. I read that B/W from the same area are really tame and they act like cats by jumping up on you lap and being very attentive. Is that true and if so are the reds like that too. The other question is do they have to have fruit included in their diet? I have offered my red grapes (red and green), apples, plums, and strawberries. He has not been interested in anything other that crickets.
