Hi there! One aspect with using stain or poly, or even paint is to make sure you use a water-based. Oil-based paints/stains can be harmful and do take a long time to "air out." The water-based do have near the harmful vapors as oil-based. I completed an oak cage for a few of our beardeds and used water-based poly for the finish and after 2-3 days of airing out it was fine. There was still a hint of the smell, yet not too bad. The odor though is not toxic when the finish is dry unlike oil-based, even though it may stink a bit for a few more days. It has been over 4-5 months ago and the beardeds are just fine. Hope this helps!

:I just made a new enclosure for my Arg. B&W. I stained the exterior and also the inside of the top for what reason I don't know. I thought it would dry and the smell would go away but the smell is still pretty strong after being dry for over a week. This might be a dull ?, but will this smell be harmful to the tegu?
