Calcisand can cause impaction problems, especially with lizards. However, I don't like it for other reasons, as a substrate for snakes it's too rough and gets funny when wet. I like reptisand a lot better, it's just very fine soft sand and my desert horned adders (the other C. cerastes!) love it. Washed playsand is a good alternative but is a little coarser.
