Substrate Question?

I have been keeping my FSS with no substrate for a bit and she seems to have shown no ill affects do many of you use a bare aquarium floor?

One other question basking sites, I have never seen my FSS leave the watter she has access to land but never leave the watter is this normal... if so should I put the heat lampp over the floating plants so she can bask there?
