Hi Maxx, thank you so much for the information. I think it was a combination of a couple of the things you've mentioned that caused the infection.

I am totally new to owning a softshell. When I purchased him just a couple weeks ago, the person who sold it to me gave him those large, colored pebbles as substrate. I haven't found any hardware store willing to sell me less than 25 pounds of fine grain sand so he's still sitting on the pebbles. In addition, I clean out his water when it starts getting a little cloudy. I think it's time to give in to the 25 pounds of sand and clean his water more often.

My poor baby. Do all veterinarians know how to care for soft shell turtles? Or is there a special title I need to be looking for when searching them out in the phone book?
