OMG....my baby is a Florida Soft Shell

I have just ID my new baby as a Florida Soft Shell. I am a bit shocked as I purchased it from a booth at a local fair and the lady who sold it to me assured me that it would not get bigger than 6 inches. I was looking forward to having an aquatic turtle I could keep indoors.

I am disappointed, however, I have grown very attached to it these past few days and I'm determined that we make this work. I understand it will eventually need a pond-size setup. What I would like to know is how long does it take for this species to reach full size? I want to see how long I've got to get ready.

And does it have any special dietary needs? What is the optimum temperature that it's habitat should be kept at? My baby is 2 inches long right now. Is there anyway to find out if it's male or femal right now so I don't keep calling it and "it"?
