Jennifer-- Your hatchling definitely sounds like a Florida Softshell. To make sure, you can do a Google search under "Florida Softshell" (or the Latin name) and look at some pictures of hatchlings. If you have a female, get prepared to own a large softshell turtle! And they grow very quickly. --Maxx
