Well, my SS has improved greatly, and I now pronounce him on the way to complete health!

I searched this discussion board and found a similar disease (described as a "white beard") in a posting on 8/19/01. The poster recommended an anti-fungal (acriflavine), or the addition of a small amount of salt to the water and the lowering of the pH. I took the latter route and added a few other things, and everything worked out well -- so far.

BTW, I live in New Orleans and it was a 'turtle person' at the Swamp Exhibit in the Audubon Zoo who recommended a high temperature (84 or so). This temp is higher than what I see recommended on this board, but it really seems to make the turtles active and they seem to like it.
