I just got back from my local museum. They have a large male alligator snapper that was rescued from a culvert in 1994. Back then it was around 15 inches straight line shell length and 25 lbs. Now its 22 inches and 92 lbs. Super cool turtle. It clearly recognized its keeper over all other guests and employees. I saw it eat about 10 small rats. Monday is one of three feeding days every week. Its kept in a 1,400 gallon aquarium that is 3' deep. The front to back measurement tapers from about 3-4 feet at its max to only about 1.5 feet. Its length was maybe 10 feet. It seemed like plenty of room for the turtle. A crowd gathered for the scheduled feeding time. One old lady asked what they fed it and I told them that they cut costs by collecting the 'free to good home' puppies out of the paper. ha ha
