A question regarding custom built tanks...

I just saw an extremely simple set up that I was thinking about building....but had a question about the lining/interior of the tank. The set-up is basically made of 2x4's...and it has a pond liner in it. My question is: Won't a common snapper tear through the liner? Would it be best to use a plywood interior with usage of a liquid marine resin/epoxy?
I want my first custom tank to be simple and less time consuming. As soon as I move back to Wisconsin this summer I am building a 300-400 gallon plywood tank with glass windows...but I want to build something 200 gallons or so for the time being...thanks for any info. -Phew
