The fish hatchery I deal with sells fish by the hundred. They are 5 inch "fingerling" brim (sp?) and catfish. The problem is my current set up is only 200 gallons. Going by the 1 inch of fish per gallon of water ratio I should only have 40 five inch fish in there. My idea was to just dump the 100 fish in and let the weaker ones get eaten by the alligator snapper. Then hoepfully get the fish numbers culled down to a more desirable ratio over time. I'm worried that the entire batch of fish might die quickly if dumped in. What do you guys think?
Also, I've been warned off of the catfish because of the spikes. Do you think 5 inch catfish would harm a 19 inch alligator snapper? How big are the spikes on chanel catfish that size? The hatchery only has those 2 species in right now and I want to offer some variety.
