Raymond,
I've used Quat and it works fine, but I only use it when I'm doing a heavy clean on tanks, that is I use it and then thoroughly rinse, dry and rinse the enclosure again. I have noticed that it can leave a filmy residue, so it is not good as a glass cleaner, unless you are going to rinse after.
For spot and general cleaning I use vinegar--it's really good. As an aside I rinse chicken with vinegar to remove any traces of salmonella before cooking it--it's a heck of a lot more effective than just running the chicken under the tap and of course it is not toxic for humans. Bear in mind that vinegar has been used for years as an effective cleaner.
Hope this helps,
best,
keats
:Hey folks,
:now that I have your attention, I would like your opinion on another topic - cleaners.
:You see, there are a variety of different cage disinfectants. ("Fluker's" makes one, and "Zoo-Med" makes one, and "Big Apple Herp" makes one, etc...).
:But my question pertains to the "end-results".
:Are these "special" disinfectants needed to properly clean a cage, or can you use "Lysol"...or even rubbing alcohol diluted with water??
:And while on the topic, what about hand cleaners? (The same type that are recommended for use after handling your lil buddies). Can we use the supermarket "bargain brand," or are the "reptile-specific ones" needed to properly kill all pathogens?
:Thanks for your opinions!!!!!
:In Christ: Raymond
