I have a nest box with perlite and verm. mixed evenly at 1:1. The box is around 4"x4"x3". I have the water at a 2:1 ratio. I have ONE LITTLE hole in the lid and I covered it. There is NO moisture on the lid at all. Even at a 2:1 ratio. (200 grams of water....100 grams of perlite/verm). I check the weight weekly and there is NO change at all...if anything it is higher. I have been just been using my sense recently. I'll feel the perlite and it will feel a bit dry, but I was told it can be misleading, so I didn't want to add more water. EVENLY I decided to careful add water around the eggs (not hitting the eggs). I still didn't see any moisture on the lid after a few days. I did read in the Reptile Magazine 2003 that they prefer drier conditions, but to me a 2:1 ratio is NOT dry.
The eggs are in an incubator (hova-bator) at 77 - 79 F.
What do you think I am doing wrong?? Any tips?
Or is this okay?
Thanks,
Liz
