Gut loading is not pointless. When you feed a single cricket a week it might be, but your crested geckos should be eating 4-7 crix every other day (depending on age). The amount of nutrients that pass on quickly adds up this way. So in addition to dusting it is a very important practice. You do not want to feed your geckos half starved and dying crix. After all you are what you eat. I agree with Nathan on this one. My cresteds are fed crix every other day with fruit supplemented once a week if they are lucky. I mainly use it as a way to pass on extra vitamins (mix it in the fruit) when needed. However there are times when I have to use it with stubborn feeders (even thought I hate to do it). In those cases I use it to hide the flavor of meat baby foods, which is used to give them the protein they need. I plan on picking up Allen’s auric diet (most protein) so I can eliminate this until they start taking crix. Anyway the point is IMO nothing beats a variety of healthy (gutloaded) live feeder insects, dusting included.
