The gecko appeared blue because it was in shed at the time and the skin in this state somehow reflected blue when it was photographed (the animal was in that light phase when the skin was pretty much seperated from the body but still attached). The animal is not blue at all. The slides were sent to Reptiles in a batch of several hundred that were taken for the article, and I never even saw the pic till it was in the magazine...
Now all I get is people emailing and calling about blue cresteds and its driving me freaking nuts..Some people even accuse me of having them and lying about it.
And now all of a sudden everyone says they have blue cresteds. I have seen all the pics people have posted, and I think there are a lot of color blind people out there if they see blue in those animals. People see what they want to see, and it cracks me up. I am not saying it is impossible to have a blue one, but to date, all the pics I see make me laugh when they are supposed to be of blue specimens.
I have produced nearly 20,000 cresteds since 1994, and have never seen one that I would call blue. So try getting your facts straight before you accuse someone of manipulating photo's
