No heat source?

I've read that cresteds don't need a heat source for thermoregulation. Is this true? All the reptiles I keep need heat sources, wouldn't cresties at least need a low wattage red bulb or something to give them a choice in temps? Or would it be much more dangerous for them to have too high temps than too low?
