Adopted a small skinny crested . . need advice>>

Hey everyone,
I recently adopted a male crested because his previous owner was unable to care for him properly. Here's the thing . . He is 2 years old and is about the size of a six month old. :o(
Poor lil' guy. He is a bit thin, but I think he will gain weight quickly as he is eating gut-loaded crix and the special smoothies I have prepared for him. Is there anything I can do about his small size? Will it affect his health or life span?
