What I did was buy a mesh tank cover that you can get in many pet store so my UVB blub can rest on top of it. The mesh allows the light to get thru. It doesn't have to be near the basking light per se but since the hood is so wide, it generally covers a lot of space.
Then I cut 1/4 of the mesh off with a wire cutter so I can easily drop food in. I guess you could trim off 1/2 the mesh to have your light clamp from the side. The other 1/2 can be used to rest the hood on. I may consider that option since I am moving my tank to a location where there is nothing to clamp the map onto. You can see a pix of my set up in another posting below.
:In my set up, I have the basking area an the side of the tank, with a basking lamp clamped to the side. I don't have any cover over the tank. I've been looking into the UVB bulbs, since I'm not sure if my basking bulb contains that...since it's not a long flourescent bulb. Anyway, I see that all of these UVB bulb fixtures look as if they need to be laying on top of something over the tank, rather than clamping to the sides of it...so my question is: Does the UVB bulb need to be over the basking area, or can I have it on the other side of the tank over the water, so that I can lay the cover over half of the tank and so I don't need to rethink how to attach the basking light clamp to the tank?
:Thanks!!!
