Strange behavior?

Hello! I have a 4" red eared slider and a similar sized chinese softshell. This AM, the softy was burried in the gravel with only his head sticking out. The red crawled up to him nose to nose, stretched out his fron legs on either side on the softy's head and started "fanning" his legs rapidly.
WTF is he doing? :)
