Now my question regarding set up...

I am getting a baby and wanted to know if filling the 10 gallon up and using a under gravel filter with powerhead will work.
I will have 2 places for it to rest and sun on under heat lamp.
Is this workable?
Thanx for any info.
p.s. I did a search but didn't see anything about this..
