You really need to feed them a varied diet to stay in top shape. A diet of meat such as Worms, brine shrimp, feeder fish, or snails. They also need plant matter such as Romain lettuce and or other vegies and a little bit of fruit doesn't hurt either.
Just continue to feed them once a day and just vary there diet more. If you do feed them feeder fish don't feed to many per month because there are pretty fatty.
