I believe selling hatchlings (less than 4 inches) is illegal due to some salmonella scare a while back so I don't think you can buy one in a pet store. However, there are places that obviously ignore that law since tiny turtles are cute and cheap. Lots of people I know have bought hatchlings for a couple of bucks in Chinatown stores and the like or find them. In Vermont, unsure where you could find one.
:Hi everyone. I am a relatively new slider owner and I got my turt from the pet store. I am guessing it is a he and that he is about 3 years old. In 6-12 months we are moving to a bigger house and I will be getting a bigger turt set up (right now I have a 40 gal breeder tank). At that time I would like to get a baby turt or two. Would my male tolerate the addition, do you think? Also, where on earth do you find baby RES'. The only pet store around here that carries turtles have HUGE ones - the smallest is about 4 inches. I want a baby. They are so cute! Any ideas? I live in Vermont..............
