I have a ZooMed microclean 304 internal filter that goes up to 55 GPH. I only feed my turts leafy greens in the tank. (I feed them pellets in a separate container.) I also net out their poops when I see them. When I used it in my 10G tank I had to do a partial water change every 4 days and complete change every week. I just switched to the 20G-long tank 4 days ago. The same filter surprisingly kept the water cleaner than when it was in a 10G tank. I guess it's due to the larger water volume which dilutes out the wastes. I know that my little internal filter is not enough for the tank. That's why I ordered the Aquaclear. I've read that with powerful filtration, tank water can be kept clean for months without water change!
