long nails and long tail (sometimes females who have spent their whole lives indoors may seem to have long nails...for example my male turtle has long nails but they're pretty dull cuz he spends alot of time on dirt and bricks too)...look at the tail if the vent is far from the base of the tail then it is a male

:Is it possible to determine the sex of a turtle at less than a year old? I was looking at Austin's and the pictures of the differences in males and females. My turtle is about 10 months old, and seems to have a long tail as shown to be a male on this website. Is it too early to really tell, or was I correct in calling him a "him" for all these months! :)
