Spring Curious

Hey gang. Got another question. I have 2 res(s), 1 (the male I assume 2") went through the winter "slow down". The other (female 2 1/2") didn't miss a beat but was a bit on the picky side as far as food. Now all of a sudden I have 2 swimming pigs! At feeding time, they eat huge (relative to before) amounts of food. Anything that goes in the tank gets eaten! Is this normal for spring? They are very energetic, FAST and healthy. Just wondering if I should expect this every year. Thanks mucho.
