If he is sleeping all the time or being lethargic, he is probably sick and should see a vet. I have had mine for years, and occasionally I see them close their eyes while basking, but other than that they are always busy, swimming, looking for food, moving rocks whatever. I have never seen them sleep, when I turn off the lights at 9pm they are still up and they get up again by 5am.
