it could be that your turtle does bask but you do not see it. an experiment you can try is putting a piece of his favorite food on the floating island. if you find it missing later, then the turtle got on the island and took it. if you find the food is still there after a while, then your turtle might be having trouble getting onto the island. you should try a turtle ramp...turtles can easily get on them.
:mine doesnt really swim too much either. he just hangs on the plants in the water. neither swimming nor basking. just hanging there all day. i finally kinda just pushed him up onto the basking area and took the plants out so he's got nothing to hang onto and now hes just sleeping there partly in the water and partly out. he's just lethargic. when he swims after the brine shrimp, he's active and swims, but other than he doesnt really do much other than sleep.
::my turts are babies and they usually swim alot (since i put them in the tank, which has been about 5 days total) but now, starting the day before yesterday evening, they have been basking....... im not sure if they are eating, but again they are only babies....... the water temp is around 78 (which i heard was good for babies turts) and the basking spot temp: i dunno, but i do not have a UVB light YET.... im getting one this week along with a new tank that is alot bigger, BUT i DO have a light that is warm...... i put them in the sun every once in a while to get D3...... any suggestions? thanks
