I have my heater inside a plastic cage (an upturned pond planter) with the wire fed through the cage and then up the side of the tank in the corner, this stops her being able to get to it!, you can by a Circuit breaker / power breaker plug which just plugs into the wall socket and then the heater into that, if the wire shorts out then it cuts the power - the question is will it cut the power quick enough?
