Although I agree that LD50 doesn't mean squat ina case like that, and although I used to keep this species and not think twice about freehandling it, I have to say that the case of the paralysis experienced by the pet store guy,a nd ther permanent disfigurement ofan arm suffered by Foden after his bite kind of got my attention.

I would certainly not call it "harmless". Whether and how it should be legislated and regulated is another question - obviously, any large dog can do as much damage or more, and is more likely to do so to third parties. Do I feel it should be in the same regulatorry category as a black mamba? No. Do I feel that it shoud be sold freely as a harmles snake to any 14 year-old coming along with his pocket money? No.
