Ten days without eating? I'd bet it was a feeding response.

Mine go nuts when they're hungry and will strike at anything. They're "bite first, ask questions later" kind of snakes.

I bought a pair of long forceps at Daytona just to feed them as I've had them perform the snake equivalent of a great white shark breaching the surface of the ocean while attacking a seal.

They weren't like that as babies, but the older and bigger they've grown, the more outrageous their feeding response gets. I'm sure you've witnessed similar behaviour with yours.
