Is strain #1 albino yellows het for strain #2? Just wondering.
Terry,
Not that I am aware of. I recently picked up a small group of strain #2 hatchlings from a good friend in Florida. He bought the original animals from Ed Wallen at the Breeder's Expo several years ago. Ed had gotten all normal babies from breeding his pair of adult albinos. He had the adults for sale and also some of their double het normal offspring. My friend bought one of the albinos and a normal baby of the opposite sex. He finally produced babies from them this season. It will be a few more years before mine are big enough to breed.
If I picked up a male albino yellow to breed to my normal yellow female (provided she's not het herself) to produce hets; I was just thinking if I would be introducing both albino genes into the offspring?
The strain #1 albinos probably do not carry the genes for strain #2 as they are separate bloodlines. But there is a chance that some of my strain #2 animals carry the strain #1 gene. Confused yet? LOL.
Now come on Dwight, there must be some Old World rat snake that has caught your eye? lol.
Actually I have no interest at all in Old World rats. I've kept and bred Gonyosoma oxcephala in the past but do not keep them any longer. The old world rats just don't do it for me... sorry! Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Later,
dg
