: Any background on its genetics?
:Does the name 'Larry Rouch' (sp?) ring a bell? The strain is supposedly from Baltimore County, Maryland, circa 1981 if I remember correctly. Andre' might know more exacting details.
:There are a few different stories as to the origins of the rusty rat. I stopped working with them a few years ago when it was suggested to me that they were not pure black rats. I really can't say for sure since I no longer work with them. Maybe Andre will give his thoughts?? I know he has gotten some very strange and rather interesting breeding results with rusy X licorice and perhaps other morphs.
An experience MD herper{Chuck} once told me that he caught some rusties with Larry in Morning side MD(PG)county in the late 70'.Larry once told me that they were discovered in Baltimore county . So who really know ? I never heard of this strain been a hybrid this is a first for me .I breed rusties for a few years now and my babies came out some rusties and some normals except for (01) lol when I got some licorice out the clutch.
If they are hybrids then with what- greys that the KY strain , yellows that the [greenish rat] NC strain how about the TX's those would be the high orange blk rat strain. What would cause the co-dominate trait ? If I had any idea that they were hybrids I would never got into them. I just don't see the other strain in the nomal babies .I'm still looking for info my self on this trait
