The blue racer (Coluber constrictor foxi) and the southern black racer (Coluber constrictor priapus) are subspecies of the same species. Their ranges do meet in southern Illinois and Ohio and in this area they are intergrades-- a blendiing between the two sunspecies. Blue racers also intergrade with Norhtern black racers(C.c. constrictor) to the east and Eastern yellowbelly racers (C.c. flaviventris) to the west. Hope this helps.
