food suggestions to tempt stubborn w/c black racer juvie?

Caught a small black racer, ~18 inch long, just losing juvie color pattern. Have had him for about 10 days. Gentle, persistent handling has tamed him enough where he doesn't bite. He seems relaxed in the 10 gal tank which is temporary home [ie no pacing or darting or nose rubbing]. So far he hasn't eaten. I've tried salamanders and small live skinks so far. Any suggestions? Do they have a favorite food? BTW, he came from North Carolina.
