Shy Racer Question.

I recently got a black racer, He is in a very nice 30 gallon L setup, and had a nice hide box. Ive had him about 12 days and he has eaten but he never comes out of his hide box. ive never seen him drink or anything except when i completely cover the cage. My question is, should i remove his hide box untill he gets use to his surrondings? he is by no means in a high traffic room. any help would be apreciated.
